On February 24, 2024, at the Don Bosco Tech Thakurmunda Centre in Odisha a captivating lecture on the art of mushroom cultivation was held. The event marked the inception of Batch-11's journey into the realm of mushroom growing. The center extended a warm invitation to Mr. Manoj Kumar Jena, a distinguished Block Research Person (BRP) from Thakurmunda, to share his expertise and insights with the eager audience. Kicking off the session, Mr. Jagadish Prasad Swain, the Center Coordinator and Domain Trainer, graciously welcomed Mr. Jena and set the stage for an illuminating discourse.

Mr. Jena commenced by shedding light on the plethora of mushroom varieties thriving in India. He emphasized the accessibility and affordability of mushroom cultivation, highlighting its potential to transform agricultural and forest waste into protein-rich sustenance. Among the array of mushrooms cultivated in India, namely oyster mushrooms, paddy straw mushrooms, and button mushrooms, Mr. Jena delineated the distinct techniques employed for their cultivation.

Drawing attention to the burgeoning mushroom industry in India, Mr. Jena underscored its profitability and rapid ascent in popularity. He elucidated how mushroom farming presents multifaceted opportunities, from converting agricultural waste into valuable resources to curbing environmental pollution. Moreover, he accentuated its role in socioeconomic empowerment, particularly for women in rural and urban settings, and unemployed youth seeking avenues for entrepreneurship.

During the interactive segment, trainees enthusiastically posed queries, which Mr. Jena adeptly addressed, further enriching the learning experience.
